Is the Automaker Honker Terminating?
16.6. 2016 | Honker

The magazine Auto-swiat. pl has informed about it. The whole development began with a prototype Tarpan 234, which was completed in the late 70s. A power unit of the car was a petrol engine with capacity of 1481 ccm which cooperated with the four-speed manual transmission. The idea to make a national vehicle with four-wheel drive was pushing ahead the Polish engineers, therefore, they did not start with serial production and they directly presented a concept car PW-1 on its foundations.

Four years later the PW-2, also known as Honker 4WD, first saw the light. A weak engine with an output of 75 horsepower was replaced by a stronger power unit IVECO, which was responsible for the formation of a model series Honker 4012 and 4022. The then manufacturers expressed of the appellation Honker like this: "The English language is onomatopoeia. Honker evokes the sound of wild geese, returning to their nests." Besides other things, the appellation was used during the Second World War as a code name for the attack on Monte Cassino in Italy, which degenerated into one of the longest and toughest battles with heavy losses on both sides.

As a result of the transformation in the 90s Volkswagen took over the production capacity and began to develop of other models. However, the project did not last long due to the unprofitability of production and was terminated in 1996. In the same year, however, the company Daewoo Motor Polska (DMP), which purchased the necessary licenses, rushed to help, and they moved the production to the city of Lublin. The company used a new type of engine Andoria 4CT90 and presented Daewoo Honker 2324 in 1997, then facelifted Daewoo Honker 2000. Everything did not last long. The end of 2000 meant a decline of the company DMP, a renaming the car as Honker 2000, and a subsequent uncertain times.

In May 2002, a new company Andoria-Mot was established. The company resume production after agreement with the trustee in bankruptcy DMP. At the turn of the year 2003/2004 Intrall Polska acquired a factory from home government located in Lublin, and the car was in 2005 was renamed Intrall Honker. During the years 2004 - 2007 models Honker MAX, Honker Scorpion were presented and the supply of Intrall Lubo was preparing. In spring 2007 the manufacturer due to the lack of orders from army, which meant its collapse and another dark age. The last glimmer of hope died out in 2009, when the company GNTB Tymińscy bought the rights to manufacture. In 2010, the army place an order for 60 cars Honker 2000 2N and the rights owner looked ahead with visions.

A norm Euro 6 concerning exhaust gases was below the belt. Several times modernized unit Andoria ADCR 2.6-litre, 85 kW, is unable to perform. To install another engine means another increase in already high prices army version, which is currently 140,000 zlotys = approximetly 31 470 EUR / 851 760 CZK. A big advantage and a disadvantage at the same time is the usability of the car from 90% in a difficult terrain. A mechanical additional transmission with full synchronization, which is innstalled into older models and  which allows to engage reduction during driving,is a relatively rare solution for trueborn off-road.The official report of the manufacturer has  not been available yet, but unofficially it is rumoured that the automaker took orders from the army, and production should continue.
